Pool Design & Water Features
As with residential design, our firm has a passion for pool/water feature design!! We have, as Landscape Architects, performed design-build services and managed the installation of numerous projects in the Metro DC region–particularly in Loudoun, Frederick, Fauquier and Warren Counties of Virginia
These projects have ranged in size from simple pools for a minimum cost to the design and installation of major pools/water features and surrounds with project costs well in excess of six figures. Experience includes design of the pool itself with waterfalls and spas along with plantings, lighting, decks, terraces, patios, and grading.
We look at the entire picture, not just the pool itself. We believe any water feature is part of the overall landscape in which it is to be placed. Their aesthetic qualities and how they relate to the site is just as important as a pool’s function as a place to swim. In fact we have found that pools and water features are viewed as much as used.
As in residential design, this experience has allowed us to know what does and doesn’t work. We are able to offer practical solutions that not only enhance your home and lifestyle but fit your budget as well.
We therefore offer a comprehensive analysis of needs and then design a solution that includes everything. We don’t just draw you a pool and leave you to figure out the rest. We consider everything, things that are required as part of the installation (fencing, grading, soil removal etc) to other amenities you might want to consider including landscaping, lighting, patios, outdoor kitchens, pavilions etc. We can then give you a realistic estimate of ALL the costs associated with your project.
We can also help you to visualize proposed solutions through strong graphics; sketches, drawings and 3d modeling. We make the process easy to use and friendly through personal interaction and the Internet.
The obvious question to ask is why pay for a design/consultation when I can get one ‘free’ or for minimal cost from other design/build firms.
The answer is simple……if you are not paying for the design/consultation… no matter how qualified they may be……they are not there as designers/consultants, they are primarily salesmen. The ‘design’ is used as a sales tool to sell their product or service. These are not bad folks but they do have their own bias or agenda which may not be the same as yours. If they find freeform pools profitable ….they will push them if they like concrete patios surrounding the pool …they will push concrete patios…
You should also be aware of who is doing the design-what are their qualifications, where did they learn how to design etc? What experience do they have? A common mistake is assuming that if the company has been around for a while-the designer must be qualified…not necessarily so! Do not just look at the Company itself, but the person you are dealing with, who will be advising you!
It should also be pointed out that nothing is for free, even if you are not charged up front for design services, it is included in the overhead of these firms which is reflected in the final construction costs. In short these “designer/salesmen” have to be paid for their time-it is either by commission or salary…but the costs have to be accounted for….you just don’t see it!
