Underlying everything we do is a drive to be imaginative but pragmatic. Designs that can’t be built, no matter how creative, end up being a graphic exercise-nothing more. Design is a means to an end for us-the end being a successful project according to the goals set by the client.
Services range from simple onsite consultations to complete design and construction management. We treat design as it should be-an important part of the process. Every project is different- every client and site unique, there are no cookie cutter or assembly line solutions. Our approach allows us to give our clients creative solutions that are right for them. This is why we have remained a Landscape Architecture Firm- independent -not a contractor, nor part of an Engineering or Architecture firm. It frees us to explore all options as Landscape Architects.
Regarding installation, we have over the last 35 years developed a network of qualified design/engineering professionals and contractors through whom we can offer complete solution to all your needs. We have found and formed relationships with who we feel are the best at what they do. The relationships we have established allow us to have a seamless integration of the process from conceptual design to final punch list. A good project is a collaborative one. The firm believes in getting out and getting involved and that the Landscape Architect doesn’t have all the answers. We promote dialogue and are eager to hear alternative views.
Our design-build experience however makes us realists. We have been contractors and can ‘see’ things from their perspective. Our 25 years of design/build experience allows us to do that. The solutions provided tend to be creative yet practical and cost effective; we know the process, materials etc. and do not create unrealistic expectations, or unnecessary expense.
Regarding Planning, Community Development and Commercial Projects, our principal, Joseph Duggan, in addition to being a Licensed Landscape Architect has a degree in Planning from Rutgers University. He also has practical experience as a member of the Town of Front Royal planning commission for twelve years, being chairman during his last year. Experience includes participation in the development of the Town Master Plan, transportation plan, numerous subdivision layouts, commercial and residential site plans, and municipal projects, along with adoption of numerous ordinances and amendments.
Mr. Duggan was also a member of Architectural Review Board for two years. This experience included review of architectural and landscape architectural designs for conformance with code and working with applicants in helping them to meet that code.
The experiences mentioned above have provided knowledge of the workings of local governments. Mr. Duggan has a unique perspective of having been on both sides of the fence regarding the government review process for Projects. He uses this experience while representing client’s projects to planning commissions, elected bodies, etc. Mr. Duggan also makes it a point to keep informed regarding the growth, environmental and visual concerns of local government in order to address them in both designs for and presentations to them.
Most importantly, we make it our priority to LISTEN. If it is a residential project, we believe it is your home-not ours-you will be living with what we create, not us. Our job is to make your dreams come true, not impose ours on them.
If we are working with other professionals on commercial venture, we again LISTEN to the goals of the client and team and work with them to make it a reality. As in residential-we understand that it is your project now ours, our job is to add to the value of the project by following your program, not ours…..
We invite you to take a look at the plans and photos on the website and if you like what you see, call/email us to learn more about our process, discuss your project and we can see if what we have to offer interests you! If after our discussions you feel it is not a good fit we will understand completely. Experience tells us that we are not always the answer! If we feel our services are not what you need, or that someone else we know would be a better fit, we will let you know. We would rather part friends than force a relationship!
